In school I seemed to excel when it came to writing or being creative and coming up with strange and unusual things to write about.
I live in Rural Nebraska with a wonderful soon to be husband and my three children who are included in my book series. Unchosen Destiny is the very first in a series of books. I am currently working on the second installment. Unchosen Destiny.

Unchosen Destiny By Kathie Lightfoot
Strange and powerful dreams or so she thinks occupy her mind most of the day while the children are at school. To avoid giving away any spoilers for this series, I'm going to leave my summary at that. What can I tell you I love Burokers' steampunk and even though she's moved to a more scifi alien based genre I'm still loving her writing.

She creates marvelous worlds, her characters are rich, and she has a way of bringing her characters to life. Buroker is on my must read author list. You should read book 1 in the Rust and Relics series first for reading Destiny Unchosen. Oct 06, Commentary rated it it was ok. Sorry, this series just isn't doing it for me.
The characters are flat, the "heroine" is totally self centered and self absorbed. The men are dull as gummy vitamins and the story is just too out there. Artemis travels to an alternative dimension to learn how to battle the monsters that have been invading earth.
In a nutshell. It's good but short. Only 70 pages. I really struggled with this one. I so Temi's motivations are all messed up, but then in five days she does a and decides that she will save Earth.
Sword fighting and interesting characters Once again page turner without a single pause! Great plot, lots of twists and great fighting scenes. Why a 4 star? Just too short! A quality novella This was a quality novella set between the first and second book. This gives great background to what could happen in the second book. Jul 27, Robin Halvorson rated it it was amazing.
I really really enjoyed this book and I discovered that this author has a metric crap ton of books out so I am in heaven. From Temi's POV a good little insight into the other world. Aug 26, Nadine Slavinski rated it really liked it. I picked up this book after reading Torrent the first in the Rust and Relics line , more curious about the fantasy world than the character - after all, in book 1, Temi is a secondary character, and my mind was more on the other characters.

It was great to learn more about Temi - who's jumped the others to become my new favorite character - and the mystery man training her to use her special weapon. It's basically just the story of her training - kind of a side story to the main event a little like Luke Skywalker with Yoga on Degobar, minus the swamp and funny voice - but "just" is a bad word, since it's an intriguing story in itself.
While this novella is a stand-alone story, it definitely needs Torrent as an introduction, and it definitely whets my appetite for more in the series. I'll be eagerly awaiting the next release! Sep 07, Stohelit rated it really liked it. Damn, I'm hooked. After reading Torrent and liking it, but not loving it I thought I'd give the series another chance. Now this story has what I missed in book 1: A very interesting political undercurrent, a plot feature that could make for a fantastic series if it gets developed further.

Plus, Temi is a very likeable heroine, just the right mixture between strong and vulnerable, troubled, but able to see farther than her own plight. Destiny Unchosen picks up where Torrent left off and tells us what happens to Temi when she goes off with the elves on motorcycles. She is being intensively trained to use her sword on a strange world with plenty of nasty predators in exchange for healing her shattered knee.
Loved it and can't wait to read the next installment. By the way, a great way to read Torrent is in the Nine by Night collection which is a terrific buy at. Sep 04, Mike rated it really liked it Shelves: indie , well-edited. I've been in one of those moods where I didn't want to read any of the samples on my Kindle.
Then I thought, "Oh, why don't I just read the Buroker? That'll be reliably good. It's been a while since I read the first Rust and Relics book, and I couldn't quite remember what happened with Temi and her coach something that kept being alluded to but was never spelled out. Other than that, I have no complaints. A good balance of reflection and action, a rounded character, I've been in one of those moods where I didn't want to read any of the samples on my Kindle.
A good balance of reflection and action, a rounded character, and competent writing. Oct 28, Susan rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy. I loved it. I was not going to continue this series until I took a chance and read this. My only objection was that it wended abruptly and left us hanging. I developed some sympathy for Temi, and much more interest in the "elves" Creatures, aliens, whatever they are, and I actually like that this is not explained. World building is taking place in this story, despite its shortness. Yes, this one made me want to read the next.
Feb 07, Michael Blackmore rated it liked it Shelves: urban-fantasy. It's a short read half between the first volume and the second and it worked well to get me over my hesitations from the first book.
